Buying Diaper in Singapore: How to choose diapers in Singapore?
The first advice is that you should not stock up any brand of diaper until you are certain that it is good for your baby. If you have made up your mind about a brand of diaper to be used immediately after your delivery, you should just buy one bag as you may want to change the brand after your baby has actually put on the diaper.
1. Excellent absorbency
Absorbency is one of the most important considerations for choosing diaper. It not only reflects how much urine it can hold, but also how well the urine is drawn off your baby's delicate skin. Poor absorption will expose your baby's skin to dampness and can lead to a diaper rash very easily.
To test the absorbency, you may want to request for a free sample of diaper from the manufacturer through their websites: Huggies, Drypers, and Mamy Poko. Some manufacturers or distributors like Merries offer free samples occasionally at the supermarket or retailer. Do check the retailers or supermarkets regularly if you need a free sample from these brands to do your own testing. For PETPET diaper or BabyLove GrowPants, you can contact the distributor at customercare@tipex.com.sg to request for a sample of PETPET diaper or BabyLove GrowPants.
2. Price per diaper
If your top consideration is price, then the price per diaper is the most important factor to you. It has been estimated that a baby may use about 6000 diapers before he or she is able to poop or pee at the toilet. If the diaper is value for money, it can save you a significant amount of money. We calculate the price per diaper for the common brands found in Singapore for your consideration. Please refer to the tables below.
Please take note that the size of diaper is varied for different brands although they may have the same label like "M" or "L". For example, For Huggies Total Protection "M" size, according to manufacturer's recommendation, it is suitable for baby having a weight of 5 to 10kg, but for Merries Diaper, it is for babies having a weight of 6 to 11kg.

3. Is my baby's skin sensitive to the diaper?
All diapers should have been tested for their sensitivity to skin and they should be safe to use. However, all babies are unique; this is why some babies' skin may be sensitive to one brand of diaper but is comfortable with another brand. Hence, you should check to see whether your baby develops any rash because of contact with a certain brand of diaper. You should change that brand of diaper if you suspect it is the diaper that causes the redness or rashes.
4. Diapers should be breathable and not trap heat and moisture inside
This is particular important in Singapore due to our hot weather. If heat and moisture is trapped inside, baby will develop skin problems easily. You may like to get a free sample to have a feel on whether the diaper will trap heat or not.
5. Fit comfortably around the baby's limb
You can only know this when you try it out on your baby. The way you put up the diaper will also affect this. If the size of the diaper is not suitable for your baby, do remember to change to a suitable size.
