Major happening in third stage of labor

Third stage starts after the baby is delivered and ends when the placenta is delivered. It usually takes about ten to thirty minutes.

1. Contraction will stop for about few minutes and it will resume again. But the contraction now usually does not cause pain.

2. Purpose of contraction is to allow the placenta to be removed from the uterus and expulsed from the body.

3. If an episiotomy is performed during the second stage of labor, the doctor will now perform a surgical suture after the delivery.

4. At the same time, the nurse is taking good care of the baby by helping cleaning up the respiratory tract of your baby and takes proper care of the umbilical cord as well as checking the health of the baby.
