Ear infection

 ear infection in children

Ear infection is quite common among children below one year old. This is because when your child is below one year old, the Eustachian tube, which connects the middle ear to the throat, is not mature yet. This tube is usually filled with air. When it becomes blocked and filled with liquid due to allergies or a cold, germs will then multiply very quickly in the liquid and cause a middle-ear infection.

If you notice your child pulling his or her ear and having a fever, your child may try to signal to you that his or her ear has problem. You should then consult the doctor immediately.

If your child's ear looks dirty due to wax, you should not try to clean the wax yourself. Instead, you should leave it to the doctor to clean it for you. When you clean your child's ear by going to ear canal to push out the wax or doing any rinsing, you may make the situation worse by pushing the wax or germ further into the ear canal. The doctor should be able to help clean it safely for your child.
