Safe to Eat Coffee

Is it safe to eat Coffee during pregnancy, breastfeeding or while trying to conceieve?Is it healthy for infant, toddler or childrent to eat?

Trying to conceive

It is better to avoid coffee while you are trying to conceive.


Coffee is rich in caffeine. Researchers have shown that caffeine relaxes the muscles in the fallopian tube and inhibits the contraction of the muscle in the tube, making it hard for the egg to be transported to the womb from the ovaries. When the egg is not transported to the womb, a woman will not be able to conceive. This explains why women, who consume a lot of coffee, usually take a much longer time to conceive.


During Pregnancy

It is better to avoid coffee during pregnancy, although some gynaecologists say one cup of coffee a day is acceptable.


Caffeine in coffee can cause an increase in the blood pressure and heart rate which are undesirable during pregnancy.


Furthermore, caffeine can cause miscarriage in the early pregnancy stage and lower weight gain in babies during late stage of pregnancy.


Lastly, caffeine makes it hard for the body to absorb iron, this can cause pregnant women to suffer anemia.


If withdrawal of coffee causes headache in you, you can consider taking one cup or two daily.


During Confinement

It is better for new mother to avoid coffee during confinement.


Caffeine in coffee makes our human body hard to absorb iron - an essential mineral for red blood cell formation. New mothers lost blood during birth delivery and through lochia during confinement. Caffeine will slow down the formation of the blood and therefore should be avoided.


During Breastfeeding

Nursing mothers should avoid coffee.


Through breast milk, the caffeine will enter baby' body. Caffeine is a stimulant and can cause the babies to be restless.This can disrupt his or her normal sleep pattern. Caffeine will also make it hard for human body to absorb iron - an essential mineral for red blood cell formation.


Four Months to Six Months Old Baby

It is not suitable at for your baby to drink coffee.
