 Difference in benefits in healthcare between Singapore permanent residents and Singapore citizens

1. Consultation Fee at Polyclinics

At polyclinics managed by NHG (National HealthCare Group), Singapore Citizens only need to pay a consultation fee of $10.7 while Singapore Permanent Residents are required to pay $34 for consultation. At polyclinics managed by another healthcare group SingHealth Group, consultation fee is $10.5 and $17.5 for Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents respectively.

2. Consultation Fee at Dental clinics

Singapore citizens need to pay between $15.1 to $25.5 consultation fees in dental clinics managed by Singapore National Healthcare Group while Permanent Residents need to pay $44.3.

Consultation fee at dental clinics at SingHealth Group is between $12.8 to $21.8 for Singapore Citizens and between $19.2 to $32.7 for Permanent Residents.

In addition, in the polyclinics or dental clinics managed by the above-mentioned healthcare groups, fees for dental service or other services may also be higher for Singapore Permanent Residents.

3. Specialist Outpatient Clinic Subsidy

Singapore Citizens are entitled to receive 50% of government subsidy for treatment at specialist outpatient clinic, subsidy enjoyed by Permanent Residents will be lower at 30%.

4. Childhood Vaccination

Singaporean children will enjoy more government subsidy when taking vaccination. Some vaccinations are free for Singaporean children. Amount of subsidy enjoyed by Permanent Residents will be lesser. For example, it is free for Singaporean children to take BCG vaccination, but a Permanent Resident child needs to pay $17.5 at the National Healthcare Group for the BCG vaccination.

5. Hospitalization subsidy

Singaporean patients staying at ward class C will receive government subsidy of up to 80%; Permanent Residents staying at ward class C will receive subsidy at only 60%. For ward class B2, Singapore citizens will enjoy government subsidy of 65%while permanent resident 45%.

6. Day Surgery

Singapore Citizens will enjoy 65% government subsidy for day surgery while permanent resident will receive government subsidy of 45%.

7. Intermediate and Long-term healthcare (community hospitals, nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, hospices)

Government subsidy for Singapore Citizens is at 75% and 55% for Singapore Permanent Residents.
