Pregnancy Week 1: Development of the Embryo and Change to Mother

Pregnancy week by week: development of the growing fetus and change to expecting mother in pregnancy week 1 and milestone in pregnancy week 1

You may be surprised to learn that pregnancy week 1 is the week when your period just started. Gynaecologists and doctor most often will calculate the expected date of delivery by using the date of the beginning of your period as the first date in pregnancy calendar.

This means that when your doctor says you are eight weeks pregnant, conception occurs at about six weeks ago, not eight weeks ago.

If you and your partner decide to conceive, both of you should try to take some prenatal vitamin, and the female should also take some folic acid. Furthermore, you and your partner should also quit those bad habits such as smoking and alcohol consumption. All these can help to increase your chance of conception.

To increase your chance further, you may want to time the sex when you are ovulating. There are ovulation testing kits available at the personals stores or pharmacies; these kits can help you to tell when you are ovulating and therefore you and your partner can time sex accordingly. Alternatively, you can calculate the ovulation date as shown below:

Expected ovulation date = projected starting of next period - 14 days

Besides, make sure you and your partner do not expose to excessive radiation, and restraint from taking any over-the-counter medicine as they may harm the baby or cause complication during pregnancy.
